Smart Women Make God Mad

From Dave in the comments here:

“It doesn’t matter how smart women are or that they are more gifted speakers or have more free time. I’ve seen many women that, from the carnal POV, are much ‘better’ then men. But God does not reward that. In fact worse; it kindles God’s anger …at ‘the blasphemy of the Word of God.’”

Yeah, in the Catholic world, it isn’t every Tom, Dick or Harry who gets to preach.

However, there have been various men and women whose writings were recognized as making important contributions to doctrine and theology. They are then declared Doctors of the Church (doctor meaning teacher in Latin) and the lay faithful can study and learn from their teachings. The thoughts and writings of women aren’t excluded from this just because they are women. As long as what they have shared is seen to not contradict Scripture and Tradition and is efficacious for learning, then it doesn’t matter their sex.

Lay men and women can teach the faith because they are just handing on what they already have learned from the Church. If any man or woman teaches from their own authority separate from the Church, then that is usurping an authority they don’t have.

If the Catholic Church, which has a male-only priesthood can declare women as Doctors of the Church, then why can’t protestant pastors, who can interpret Scripture on their own without even an official agreement of a Council, come to the conclusion that it’s ok for women preach and teach? If they have been given permission, is that usurping authority?

  3. He is saying that women usurping authority is what makes God angry. Why not post the whole comment instead of a snippet edited to make it say what you want it to say?
